Guazhou county establishes first volunteer center

The Party committee of Guazhou county jointly established its first volunteer center with the Yuanquan town local government in March. The center aims to unite volunteers and coordinate the volunteer services.

Guazhou county and Yuanquan town are located in northwest China's Gansu province.

Volunteers of the center in Guazhou county travelled to the east side of the county to carry out a voluntary tree planting activity on April 8.

Yang Yuan, a volunteer from the center, said that the center made her feel at home and that she was happy to see it providing a platform for volunteers to communicate with each other.

The volunteer center has its own reading room with 1,500 books available.

"There are more than 800 registered volunteers so far," said Zhao Haiqing, Guazhou county’s Party committee chief. "The volunteers come from all walks of life. There are retired people, officials and office workers, who are all active to perform voluntary work," Zhao added.

"We are looking to see more volunteers to register in the center," said Lu Hui, the governmental head of Yuanquan town. According to Lu, the center strives to build various service teams based on volunteers' hobbies, strong points and requests, and expand the scope of voluntary work as much as possible.
