The Guangxi First Bay Thangka Cultural Collection Hall, the first of its kind in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region to focus on thangka culture, was opened to the public in the First Bay scenic area of the Hongshui River in Hechi's Donglan county on Jan 23.

More than 300 precious thangka paintings are on display in the hall, allowing local people to get a closer look at the charms of Tibetan culture and art.

Thangka is a traditional style of painting on silk or cotton which was listed as one of the first batch of China's intangible cultural heritages in 2006. The thangka paintings are mainly done with mineral and organic pigments derived from coral, agate, sapphire, pearl, gold and silver, and the colors can remain for centuries.

The hall is divided into three areas, showcasing the origin, development, technique and inheritance of thangka culture.
