"In recent years, Guiyang's policy and investment environment has been getting better and better, its location advantage has become increasingly prominent, and it has been showing strong development momentum," said Zhang Chen, public relations manager of the Guizhou Geely Engine Project.
The Guizhou Geely Engine Project was funded and built by Geely Holding Group in Baiyun district, Guiyang, capital of Guizhou province, costing a total of about 5 billion yuan ($740.42 million).
A 1.5 TD (turbocharging diesel) engine production line jointly developed by Geely and Volvo is being built.
Since beginning construction in February 2017, the project has received strong support from provincial, municipal and district governments.
The project is currently in the final equipment commissioning phase. It is expected to be completed and begin operating this March.
After it begins operating, the annual output value is expected to exceed 5.4 billion yuan, providing more than 1,200 jobs.
Zhang said they will work hard to complete the project as soon as possible in order to provide a boost to the?medium and?high-end manufacturing industry in Guiyang and throughout Guizhou.
