Over the past 40 years, Guiyang has reinforced its urban strengths significantly. However compared with other developing regions in China, it is relatively weak in economic vitality, industrial level, development platforms, and sustainable development capacity.
Lack of competitiveness in the real economy has become the biggest shortcoming in Guiyang's development, particularly the manufacturing industry, which is the main body of the real economy, where it currently suffers from its small size, lacks pillar industries, and has weak core-competitiveness.
To improve this situation, Guiyang has put forward a strategy that emphasizes grasping high-level opening up opportunities, optimizing its economic market structure, and let trade drive the development of industry. It will push forward the integration of big data and the real economy, and also actively take part in the construction of Belt and Road Initiative.
Oriented as a pilot area of open economy in the Chinese?mainland and a middle and high end consumer goods manufacturing base in China, Guiyang will introduce and incubate 30 middle and high end manufacturing and trade service enterprises by 2020.
