During a friendly talk with Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad on March 13, CGGC Chairman Nie Kai said that CGGC is willing to deepen its cooperation with Pakistan and make contributions to the creation of the China-Pakistan economic corridor.

Beginning by extending a warm welcome to Mr. Nie and his delegation, Mr. Sharif said that CGGC is welcome to take an active part in various fields in Pakistan to promote country’s social and economic development, reassuring that his government will provide business facilitations for CGGC to jointly deepen bilateral cooperation.

Nie said that at present Pakistan is politically stable, the investment environment is being improved, and the friendship between the two governments and the two peoples are being strengthened, adding that CGGC is willing to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation to achieve common development.

Mr. Nie recalled that Prime Minister Sharif paid an inspection tour to the CGGC-contracted N-J Project not long after he took office, which brought CGGC not only confidence but also a strong sense of responsibility. As the most technically demanding project in the world history of hydropower construction, the N-J Project is now in smooth progress thanks to the joint efforts of all parties involved, Nie said, confirming that CGGC will go all out to speed up construction.

Having significantly improved its operating capacity through a series of reforms, CGGC now hopes to seize the rare opportunity of building the “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor”, give full play to its advantages in project construction, financing and project operation, and deepen its cooperation with Pakistan in such industries as cement, civilian explosives, hydropower, thermal power, etc., said Mr. Nie.

Prior to meeting with Sharif, Mr. Nie held a talk with Dr. Ismail, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister and Chairman of the Pakistan Board of Investment. The two sides exchanged views on issues of common interests focusing on CGGC investment projects in Pakistan.

The idea of “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor" was proposed by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during his visit to Pakistan in May 2013. In response to this proposal, the two countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding Long-term Planning for Sino-Pakistani Cooperation in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. According to the Memorandum, the two strategic partners will intensify exchange and cooperation in the transportation, energy and marine industries to improve the interconnectivity between the two countries and promote common development. China-Pakistan economic corridor planning not only covers “channel" construction and connection, but will also facilitate bilateral cooperation in infrastructure, energy resources, agriculture, water conservancy, information communication and other fields along the Economic Corridor.
