The 2016 China Food Safety Publicity Week and 8th China Food Safety Forum were launched in Beijing on June 14, marking the beginning of this year's food safety publicity week.

The city of Zhangjiagang in Jiangsu province has already taken action for the promotion. On June 13, government departments including the agriculture committee, industry and commerce administration, quality supervision bureau, health bureau and drug safety bureau set up booths alongside the park square to hand out leaflets and promote a better understanding of food safety to residents.

Staff of the city's quality supervision and inspection center demonstrated an experiment on vegetable pesticide residue by checking the color change of vegetables after they were put into a detection reagent. Many residents were interested in the test and made many inquiries about ways of avoiding pesticide residue.

There will a total of 12 themed events during the food safety publicity week, including a spot check on food quality where 10 food varieties will be voted for by residents through the WeChat account "zjgonline1" to receive inspections. The results will be announced in early July. Unqualified food products and sellers will be punished.
