"The unique advantage of the bonded area lies in advanced manufacturing and modern logistics," said Liu Zhonghua, director of the area's development and reform bureau. "The distinctive supervision area of the customs house contributes a lot to our strength and openness."

The area will also soon see the completion of Kangde Xin Composite Material Company's second factory building by the end of 2017. The 12 billion yuan ($1.8 billion) factory is expected to make 100 million glass-free 3-D module products annually.

The bonded area is also home to Jiangsu's only auto port with with a logistics park covering 60,000 square meters and six auto modification companies. "The bonded area really us helps a lot in cutting logistic cost and saving transportation time," said Long Yichun, general manager of Pangda Group, one of the six settlers.

To date, the Zhangjiagang Bonded Area has attracted some 30 global 500 companies. In the next five years, the area will build five business blocks covering logistics, transaction, settlement, industrial and headquarters, as well as focusing on innovation to boost growth, said Liu.
