The development zone of the Gongqing city

Gongqing city, located in northern Jiangxi province, is a county-level city, 70 kilometers away from Nanchang and Jiujiang. It lies on the western bank of Poyang Lake and to the south of?Lushan Mountain. The land is flat. The city has a subtropical humid monsoon climate with an annul average temperature of 16.7C, annual rainfall of 1,366 mm and annual sunshine of 1,885 hours. It covers an area of more than 300 square kilometers.

On Oct 18,1955, 98 young people from Shanghai visited Jiuxian Mountain in Da'an county, a place sparsely populated and habited by wild animals. The youth reclamation volunteers overcame numerous difficulties to support themselves and develop the land. Forty days later, the former general secretary of the CPC Central Committee Hu Yaobang paid a special visit to the area and inscribed “Gongqing Commune” (which means commune of the Communist Youth League of China) in front of the makeshift shelter. The inscription given by Hu Yaobang encouraged these young people to build the wasteland into a modern city. Since then development has become the common goal, one that has been passed down from generation to generation. The area was renamed several times under vicissitudes. It was not until December 12, 1984, Hu Yaobang renamed it Gongqing city.?

Now, Gongqing city has become a bright pearl on the bank of Poyang Lake and a renowned city along the Beijing-Jiulong Railway. It has become the development zone, investment zone of Taiwan businessmen, ecological demonstration zone and migratory bird natural reserves.

It is an important export base and the first production base of textile garment in Jiangxi province and has formed a complete industrial chain of textile, dyeing, embroidery, zipper and garment production. The production value of garment last year was 720 million yuan, accounting for 63.7 percent of the total industrial output value. Among them, the most famous “Yaya” Down Wear was awarded one of the Chinese famous-brand products. “Yaya” brand has been registered in more then 80 countries and regions and become the best-selling brand in over 60 countries and regions around the world.
