Liaoning Province, one of the old industrial bases in Northeast China, will organize a series of events to accelerate the implementation of the "Five Points and One Line" strategy this year.

The strategy, which was initiated early in 2005, outlines five key industrial areas along its coast and one road that will connect all cities in its coastal areas.
Top priority this year will be given to promotion of the Liaoxi Coastal Economic Zone, one of the five key industrial zones under the strategy, said Li Wancai, vice governor of Liaoning.
"Liaoxi used to be an area that had relatively lagged behind in terms of economic development. However, since it has abundant coastal resources, the area has much potential for economic development in the years to come," Li said.
He pledged that the provincial government will launch a series of activities to promote the investment environment of the Liaoxi economic zone.
The province will mainly promote the area during Taiwan Week, which will be held in the province this year, to attract potential Taiwanese investors, Li said.
Meanwhile, the province will also organize promotional events in Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions and Taiwan Province this year, mainly showcasing the investment environment in the Liaoxi area.
"We are expecting new coastal economic development in the Liaoxi area after a series of promotional activities at home and abroad," Li said.
Liaoning will also organize a high-level coordinative meeting this year to collect information on the development of five other key industrial areas, Li added.
"We also face a number of difficulties in the drive to implement the strategy. Thus, we are expecting to receive suggestions from participants from all industrial zones at the meeting, to pave the way for improved administration," he explained.
Further, Liaoning will host a provincial-level forum this year to discuss how to combine efforts to develop its coastal and inner areas.
"We will also make great efforts to develop the inner areas of the province as we are now entering a new era that requires us to revitalize our old industries in inner areas," Li said.
Liaoning has also outlined an industrial corridor in its inner regions, he added.
"The industrial corridor, with Shenyang as the center, will conform to the implementation of the 'Five Points and One Line' strategy'," Li said.
Li revealed that the Liaoning provincial government will send delegations to Japan, the Republic of Korea and Europe this year to promote the strategy.
"We will take advantage of Japan's economic recovery in recent years and organize a big promotional fair there in a bid to attract more Japanese investment," he said.
Under the "Five Points and One Line" strategy, a manufacturing belt is expected to be established in the years ahead.
"We will make more efforts to attract foreign investment from Europe as Liaoning is in a position to provide manufacturing bases for European investors," Li said.
Liaoning Governor Zhang Wenyue said in his government work report early this year at the annual provincial people's congress that the province will spare no efforts to promote the investment environment in the five key industrial areas.
"We will accelerate opening up in the coastal areas in the years ahead, to forge a strong coastal economy in the nation," asserted Zhang.
