April is considered the best time for trees planting and afforestation. During this Spring, Fengcheng is going to plant forests covering an area of 2,666 hectares with an investment of 50 million yuan ($7.93 million).
Fengcheng plans to choose the appropriate varieties of trees to implement multilevel plantations around exits of expressways, along Jingguan Road and Binhe Road and in city parks. The number of big trees planted is expected to exceed 10,000 in 2012 on the basis of the 5,440 planted last year. At present, landscape engineering in Fengcheng has begun to take shape, upgrading the city's ecological landscapes.
The city will also plant trees along the Shenyang-Dandong highway, Dantong highway, highway 304 and on the surface of mountains along highways to improve the road environment. Gingko will be planted along the highway and Korean pines will be planted on the surface of mountains. The total afforestation area along roads will reach 366.67 hectares.
Various trees including white birches, Ginkgos, goldenrain trees and oriental planes will be planted in a delicate design. The landscape engineering is under way and the environment on roads will be greatly enhanced when the afforestation completed.
Fengcheng will also make efforts in promoting the "green hill project" that is a key forestry project for the city. Five major projects and as many as 246 forest management projects are to be accomplished, covering a mountain forest area of 665.4 hectares. About 66.67 hectares of evergreen trees such as Koran Pines and picea asperata have also been planted on the surface of mountains.
