The Shanghai People's Procuratorate held event on May 31 to call on the protection on juveniles in cyberspace.

The event was attended by about 70 people, including representatives of the National and Municipal People's Congresses, members of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, students, and teachers from Shanghai's high schools.

On the same day, the Municipal Online Game Industry Association and representatives of well-known online game companies issued the "Proposal for the Protection of Minors in the Online Game Industry in Shanghai". The proposal was formally implemented on June 1, which marked International Children's Day.

The procuratorial organs have in recent years found an increasing number of infringements related to minors on the internet.

The Shanghai People's Procuratorate and more than 30 well-known online game companies called for the construction of an online game space with active content and strong protection for the juvenile population.

The proposal calls for measures to prevent online addiction in minors, strengthen the identity authentication of online games and information protection, also implement a classification system for game products.

The amended Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of Minors and the amended Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention of Juvenile Delinquency was officially implemented on June 1. The amended laws allow teenagers to be protected under the laws in the virtual world.
