Ada Yonath, Nobel laureate in chemistry in 2009, recently paid a visit to Shanghai's Jiading district to promote the opening of the newly opened Nobel Prize Academic Exchange Center.
The Nobel Prize Academic Exchange Center, founded by the Shanghai Cell Therapy Engineering Technology Research Center, has drawn together 22 Nobel Prize winners as well as top experts from precision medicine, who will focus on research and development in the field.
The center is set to be a platform for domestic and overseas top scientists and Nobel Prize winners to take part in academic exchanges with each other and facilitate the development of domestic precision medicine.
"By communicating with Nobel Prize winners, Chinese young scientists can develop more original ideas, so that Chinese precision medicine and cell therapy can truly become globally pioneering," said Qian Qijun, president of Shanghai Cell Therapy Engineering Technology Research Center.
It will also help promote the implementation of Project White, proposed in 2016 by Qian Qijun and Wu Mengchao, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and known as the "Father of Chinese Hepatobiliary Surgery". The project's aims are that 60 percent of advanced tumors can be receded and 60 percent of Chinese can afford cell therapy over the next decade.
