The 39th Shanghai Bird-loving Week?began in Sheshan National Forest Park on April 15.

The event was first established in 1981 to protect migrant birds flying between China and Japan.

It is scheduled to run from April 11 to 17 in Shanghai and aims to promote awareness of wildlife and environmental protection among the public.

There are four species of birds commonly seen in Sheshan National Forest Park – sparrow, turtledove, blackbird and light-vented bulbul.

In addition, the park is also home to rare birds such as the brown-faced warbler, yuhina and woodpecker.

Visitors are forbidden from feeding or catching birds in the park and are encouraged to report any violations by calling 57658832.

Tianmai Mountain Park, part of Sheshan National Tourism Resort, is also a surveillance site for wildlife epidemic sources and a bird protection site.

Every summer, the park organizes activities to help improve awareness of bird protection among visitors.
