North China’s Shanxi province will boost Chinese medicine into a strategic emerging industry for the local economy.
The provincial government has issued measures to accelerate the development of Chinese medicine industry recently.
According to these measures, Shanxi will lead more capital to this industry, especially to authentic and advantageous medicinal crops. It plans to support Chinese medicine companies and cooperatives to improve output and quality based on the Good Agricultural Practice for Chinese Crude Drugs. More support will be granted to the deep and fine processing.
Currently Shanxi has nine breeding bases for medicinal herbs. The measures designated to increase the support in training and research for these bases. Moreover, the province will map out the regional development of medicinal crops based on scientific research.
The province also seeks to consolidate Chinese medicine companies, establish a pilot traceability system and quality standards system for this industry.
