The 11th Shanxi Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body in the province, held its fifth session from Jan 13 to 17 in Taiyuan, to discuss development plans for Shanxi.
There were some 750 proposals collected from individuals, political parties, and various organizations during the conference. Around 91 percent of the proposals, which involved issues such as the economy, environmental protection and culture, were put on record for further discussion and implementation.
Shanxi will advance the transformation of its economy and local industry, improve residents' lives, and encourage innovation, according to Xue Yanzhong, chairman of CPPCC Shanxi Committee.
The session approved the Shanxi CPPCC Standing Committee's report on the overview of work undertaken in 2016, and selected five candidates for membership of the standing committee. Wang Jianming was elected as the vice-chairman of the Shanxi CPPCC.
