The Shenxi Wetland Park, located in Hunyun county, Shanxi province, has been recently approved as the pilot of a national-level wetland park construction, which also marks the first time a wetland park in the northwest area of Shanxi has achieved such a qualification.

The Shenxi Wetland Park is in the northwest of Hunyuan, and covers an area of nearly 316 hectares (3,159,900 square meters) in total. It boasts magnificent natural sights, and a rich human landscape. The "Moon scene in Shenxi" is one of the eight famous sights in Hunyuan. There are also rich animal and plant resources there.

In recent years, Hunyuan has been actively promoting the protection and construction work of Shenxi Wetland Park, which, in 2009, had been approved as one of the first groups of wetland parks under provincial protection. The level-upgrading this time will help further protect the biological diversification and ecological system in the wetlands.

The time span for the pilot operation of the construction of Shenxi Wetland Park is 3 years, and it's expected to pass its final evaluation in 2015, before it becomes a formal national-level wetland park.
