Datong is promoting regional cooperation along the Great Wall Golden Economic Zone, the shared border of Shanxi and Hebei provinces, and Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
 
A cattle-raising company brought 1,088 Holstein purebred dairy cattle to the Datong Yilei Animal Farm in Shanxi province. These cattle were transported to China from Australia, first staying in quarantine for 45 days for safety reasons stipulated by China Customs.
