Literary and artistic creations with a judicial theme should contribute to the country’s judicial work as well as give support to litigants, said Jing Hanchao, vice-president of the Supreme People’s Court, China’s top court, while he was on a research tour of courts in Southwest China’s Sichuan province.

Jing praised Sichuan courts’ use of short videos to help the public to better understand judges and courts while raising awareness of the law. He also acknowledged the courts’ efforts to integrate local culture with legal culture.

An abundance of literary and artistic works depicting the court system will play an indispensable role in promoting the rule of law. It will help raise legal awareness among the general public and contribute to China’s efforts to create a social environment in which all people conscientiously respect, study and obey the law.

A high-quality work with a court-related theme may be a kind of case study and provide in depth analysis, promote excellent Chinese cultural traditions that value honesty and harmony, and help spread legal knowledge and socialist core values in a vivid fashion, said Jing.

He suggested that litigation service centers broadcast videos on such themes as divorce or parental support, which may educate litigants in a subtle way and help resolve disputes.

He also stressed taking advantage of information technology to allow literary and artistic works to play a greater role with a wider scope.

He encouraged Sichuan courts to take the lead in this area as a demonstration for other courts in China.
