An expert symposium for the 16th annual conference of CAST was held in Kunming, Yunnan.

On May 25, an expert symposium for the 16th annual conference of the China Association for Science and Technology was held in Kunming, Yunnan.

At the symposium, the 13 experts led discussions and offered targeted suggestions on major issues concerning the economic and social development and local characteristic industries of Yunnan.

Centered on Yunnan’s possibilities and development needs, experts offered their targeted and workable suggestions based on empirical research.

The development path of Yunnan should match its resources, Han Qide, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, and the Chairman of CAST, said. Yunnan has clear geographical advantages and rich humanities and natural resources. We will give impetus to industrial transformation and upgrading in advantaged industries like biotechnology and the pharmaceutical, energy and tourist industries. With scientific and sustainable development, we will build Yunnan into a more beautiful and prosperous city.

Qin Guangrong, Secretary of Yunnan Province Party Committee introduced the work Yunnan has done in opening up, new pattern urbanization, ecological civilization construction and development of local characteristic industries.

Technology and innovation is the effective way to solve issues in the economic and social development of Yunnan, Li Jiheng, Deputy Secretary of Yunnan Province Party Committee, said. He suggested that we should seize opportunities and enhance cooperation with experts of CAST. Li Jiheng also called on departments to sum up the suggestions experts have offered and establish a cooperative mechanism to help bring in talent and high-tech projects.

Heads of relevant government departments of Yunnan and heads of CAST were present at the conference.
