George Bush visits Shandong: China's rise is an opportunity for USA

George W. Bush, former president of the United States, attended the “2010 China and the World Economic Outlook” conference in Shandong on January 26, 2010. It is the first time he visited Shandong.
In his thirty-minute speech, Bush praised the economic prosperity and great social changes of China in the past thirty years. China's rise is an opportunity for USA, not a threat, he said.
He said China’s success shows the importance of openness, trade and the free market.
Bush said he opposed trade protectionism. The best way to help people out of poverty is to support and encourage commercial trade, he said. Donations cannot compare with the benefits from global free trade and the goods and services produced by economic development.
"The world’s economy center changes from the Atlantic to the Pacific,” Bush said. He appreciated China’s effort in helping the world go through difficult times.
Bush showed his confidence in the recovery of the world’s economy and said the U.S. economy would continue to maintain good relations with China.
Bush also discussed the economic problems of China and the world with three of China’s CEOs.
