Texas Instruments opens first semiconductor manufacturing plant in China

Texas Instruments Incorporated, the world leader in analog and embedded processing, announced on Friday the opening of its first semiconductor manufacturing facility in China.
The facility is located in the Chengdu High-tech Zone in the capital of Sichuan Province. The new entity, named TI Semiconductor Manufacturing (Chengdu) Co., Ltd, is a wholly owned enterprise in China and was established with a total investment of up to $275 million in cash and other investments.
"TI chose Chengdu as the location for our first semiconductor manufacturing site due to the visionary efforts of the Chengdu municipal government which provides the infrastructure needed to attract technology companies," said Xie Bing, chairman of TI Chengdu.
TI Chengdu includes a 200mm manufacturing facility and equipment purchased from Cension Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. The facility includes a 120,000-square-foot fab capable of supporting more than $1 billion in annual revenue and a 134,000-square-foot fab reserved for future production capacity.
