Nanjing to hold service outsourcing summit

A major service outsourcing conference will kick off in Nanjing June 8, as the Jiangsu province capital aims to build itself into a hub for offshore services in China.

The Fourth China International Service Outsourcing Cooperation Conference (CISOCC) will be jointly held by the Ministry of Commerce's Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Jiangsu Provincial Government.

As of 2010, Jiangsu was home to 4261 companies engaged in service outsourcing businesses employing 550,000 staff, according to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce.

Last year, offshore contract value reached nearly $1.61 billion, a growth of 134.96 percent year-on-year.

"Nanjing has strong capacity to develop the service outsourcing industry, as it boasts a huge talent pool, excellent telecommunication and transportation facilities, and highly values sustainable and transparent business practices," said Li Qi, deputy mayor of Nanjing, at an April 28 press conference.

Zhao Jin, deputy director of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, told the media that this year's CISOCC will feature two brand new programs.

One will provide a platform for Nanjing educational institutions and outsourcing companies to discuss how to best prepare students to work in the industry. The second program will connect outsourcing firms with financial institutions which can help them better manage their financing channels.

The CISOCC will also explore development trends in the global outsourcing industry and prospects for fruitful cooperation among its diverse players.
