Railway resumes operation after landslides

The Chengdu-Kunming railway line reopened at 12:54 pm on Monday after it was disrupted by rain-triggered landslides for 78 hours.

All the trains running along the line, which runs from Chengdu, capital of Southwest China's Sichuan province, and Kunming, capital of neighboring Yunnan province, will resume normal operation on Tuesday, according to the Chengdu Railway Bureau.

On the evening of June 16, a rainstorm hit the Baiguo-Puxiong section of the line in Yuexi County in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan, causing landslides and stranding nearly 5,000 passengers on four trains.

The line reopened to traffic at noon on Monday after the flood-damaged roadbed of its Baiguo-Baishiyan section was rebuilt.
