The Shanghai Center is located east of Dongtai Road, west of Middle Yincheng Road, south of Lujiazui Ring Road and north of Garden Shiqiao Road. It covers about 30,000 square meters of land and has 410,000 square meters of overall construction. It is 632 meters high and will be completed in July 2015.

The construction and operation of the Shanghai Center is overseen by Shanghai Tower Construction and Development Co Ltd, which was jointly founded by Shanghai Chengtou Corp Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone Development Co Ltd and Shanghai Construction Group. The center has a total registered capital of 5.2 billion yuan ($824.38 million). Shanghai Tower Construction and Development accounts for 51 percent of the total investment, Shanghai Chengtou Corp 45 percent, and Shanghai Construction Group 4 percent.

Construction began in November 2008. Upon completion, Shanghai Tower will be a 24-hour grade-A complex and serve as a new landmark in Shanghai.
