Fitness boom in Sanmenxia

The city of Sanmenxia, Henan province announced the opening of some fitness activities, on Aug 8 as part of China's annual Fitness Day and arousing thousands of sport-advocates from around the city involved in everything from family and community sports meets to other kinds of performances.

The idea was to motivate the entire city and get it to take to exercise as a way to improve physical well-being. It included a competition, where?seven groups from different parts of the city had onlookers enthralled with with performances of fan dancing, martial arts, Latin dances, and Chinese tai chi and qigong. Taking 1st prize was the city's Yima county.

The idea for the activities came from local authorities and the city's sports bureau, which say they want to encourage the locals to live a healthier life.
