The Three Mountains of Penglai refer to the three mountains in ancient myths and legends in Penglai, Fangzhang and Yingzhou districts. They are regarded as the origin of Chinese oriental myths, as they are said to be the places where Qin Shihuang, the first emperor, sought the key to eternal youth. It has gained the reputation of “a fairyland in the world of men”. The three mountains are national 5A-level scenic spots and a national cultural industry demonstration base. The 108-metric-ton jade lying Buddha, the 72-ton jade standing Guanyin and the 260-ton 11-face Guanyin are regarded as rare treasures of the scenic spot. There are also large collections of national-level artwork in the region. The three-mountain scenic area is another model of Chinese classic gardens, after the Yuanmingyuan or Old Summer Palace and Summer Palace.
