The 2015 Chongqing Smart City Construction Forum was held in Liangjiang on Aug 20. The forum was held primarily to enable discussions about the promotion of information technology and smart city construction, according to the Liangjiang administrative committee.

Jointly organized by the Chongqing Science and Technology Institution and Chongqing Bureau of Foreign Experts Affairs, the forum drew in experts, professionals and scholars from different research areas.

During the forum, experts detailed the connection between smart city construction and promoting city development. Pi Xiaoqing, secretary of the Chongqing Science and Technology Party committee, pointed out that smart city construction is the responsibility of society as a whole. "Smart city construction can help to improve the living conditions of the local people," said Pi.

A senior expert from NEC Corporation, a multinational Japanese firm providing information technology services and products, delivered a speech about the application of biological recognition technology in smart city construction.

As the country's first inland state-level development zone, Liangjiang has been designated as a pilot area to promote the construction of a smart city.

According to the Liangjiang administrative committee, the construction of a smart city will help the area to improve its services and supporting facilities to attract more talent and enterprises.

As early as 2013, Liangjiang was set up as one of the first batch of smart city construction pilot projects by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. In recent years, Liangjiang has been working on improving governmental management standards and public service abilities to promote smart city construction.

In July, the official Chongqing's Liangjiang New Area app was released to the public. As one of Liangjiang's smart city construction projects, great emphasis has been placed on the user experience design of the official Liangjiang app to enable a better customer experience and to better serve local people and investors in the area.
