Indonesia to have racing school

Red and White Motorsports, an arm of PT Asian Formula Three Indonesia, plans to establish a racing school by the end of this year to for young and talented locals, especially those who have limited financial means.

"We are seeking permission, blessing and support from the government. Hopefully, we can start with the first batch of 10 race drivers by the end of this year," R and W Motorsports head James Barrett was quoted Friday by English daily The Jakarta Post as saying.

Barrett said some world-class instructors from Europe, including Formula Three race driver James Winslow of England and an instructor with the Mexico A1 racing team will share their expertise in the school.

The company's team controller Faizal Laude said his team had been making preparation for the school since last year.

"That's why we took a year off from organizing the Asian Formula Three this year. We want to focus on doing research and development work to make this racing school," Faizal said.

The school, according to Faizal, will target youngsters between 9 and 15 years old, who have talent in motorsport but no financial backing to pursue their careers.

"Of course, the costs to make this (school) will be very expensive. For that reason, a separate Asian Formula Three Indonesia arm will handle necessary approaches to sponsors and relevant parties," Faizal said.

"We will also immediately launch a nationwide tryout program to screen talented youngsters between 9 and 15 years old to be groomed as pro race drivers, either in Touring race, Formula race or karting."
