Man charged with woman's 1995 murder

LONDON: Detectives charged a 34-year-old man on Thursday with the murder of a woman killed while out walking her dog more than 14 years ago.

Vikki Thompson, a 30-year-old mother of two, was found with severe head injuries beside a railway line in Ascott-under-Wychwood, Oxfordshire, in August 1995.

She never regained consciousness and died six days later.

Thames Valley police said officers from its crime review team had charged a man from the same village with murder and he was due to appear in court later on Thursday.

"Fourteen years ago Vikki was brutally attacked whilst out walking her dog along a country lane," her husband JonathanMan charged with woman's 1995 murder and her mother Margaret Simpson said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Time has passed by now, but still we never forget the loss we suffered, when Vikki was taken away from us. Vikki herself deserves the justice that has not yet been found."
