President Xi Jinping will exchange ideas on international and regional problems with Indian leaders and speak in New Delhi about Sino-Indian relations and China's policy in Southeast Asia, Liu Jianchao, an assistant minister at the Foreign Ministry, told a media briefing, according to People's Daily.

Experts said economic cooperation is likely to be an area Xi will stress in Sino-Indian relations. "India's new government is not very interested in being military allies with the US or Japan but hopes to enhance its national strength through economic development," Jiang Jingkui, director of the East Asia Study Center of Peking University, was quoted as saying.

"Some of China's competitive projects, such as high-speed railway and communication infrastructure will probably get some preferential treatment and fewer barriers to entry," Ye Hailin, an expert from the Chinese Academy of Social Science, said.

Ye also expected Xi's visit to accelerate regional economic integration, between China, Bangladesh, India and Myanmar, helping carry out specific policies for an Economic Corridor between the countries.

Jiang said China and India should deepen their cooperation in the fields of energy, environment, climate and food as these are the same problems both countries have.

During the first meeting with India's newly elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi at July's BRIC Summit in Brazil, Xi said that as the world's two biggest developing countries, China and India have many strategic points of convergence and can gain global prominence by making joint efforts to pursue their dreams.
