MOSCOW - Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Barack Obama praised the recently clinched Iranian nuclear deal in a phone conversation, the Kremlin press service said Wednesday.

"Thanks to the constructive negotiation of Iran and the P5+1 group (Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany), as well as the European Union, a political and diplomatic solution to the issue eventually succeeded and became possible after long-time efforts," the Kremlin quoted the two leaders as saying in an online transcript.

Both sides stressed that a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear program is in the interests of the entire international community and helps to strengthen the nuclear nonproliferation regime and decrease tensions in the Middle East region.

Putin went on emphasizing that Russian-US dialogue is important to ensure the global security and stability, according to the Kremlin.

The two heads of state agreed to continue joint work to protect the full implementation of the Iranian nuclear deal and to cooperate on other key international issues like anti-terrorism.

Iran and six world major powers reached an agreement on Tuesday on the Iranian nuclear issue that will put Iran on the path of sanctions relief but more strict limits on its nuclear program.

Putin on Tuesday said that the inked deal is a step to protect world stability, urging all relevant parties to fully comply with the provisions of the agreement.
