A post twitted by National Meteorological Center (NMC) predicting that the devaluation of the rouble may affect the accuracy of China's weather forecast has drawn widespread attention.

Nearly 3,000 users reposted the tweet on the bureau's official Sina Weibo account till 10 am on Tuesday and more than 1,100 gave "likes" or commented on it, with the numbers still climbing.

"The risk of going out will increase," weibo user Nanzhannan said. Another user Jinfeixibiweibo asked "does it mean that the Siberia cold air will pay a visit without knocking the door？"

While many made fun of NMC's message, others questioned it and expressed their confusion over the linkage of Russian currency with China's weather forecast.

User HERAKAZE asked "where is our country's meteorological satellite?" JiakechongTaxi questioned whether it is responsible to link the rouble with the weather.

The NMC later explained its tweet in another post on Sina Weibo.

With the Russian economy taking a hit after a steep fall in rouble, the country has stopped many radiosonde observations.

Radiosonde observation can make direct internal measurement of the air temperature, pressure, humidity and wind power at various levels. So the missing meteorological data can only be provided by remote sensing satellite which is far less accurate than the radiosonde observation.
