China beats Philippines at FIBA women's Olympic pre-qualifying tournament
AUCKLAND - China beat the Philippines 127-49 in its last Group A match of the FIBA Women's Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament for Asia-Oceania Region at the Trusts Arena, Auckland on Sunday.
Centre Han Xu grabbed 26 points and nine rebounds to lead China for the lop-sided victory.
"The most valuable lesson we learnt from the tournament is how to face and overcome difficulties. This is a must for a strong team. I am quite satisfied with what our players have done," Chinese coach Xu Liming said.
Philippine coach Patrick Henry Aquino acknowledged that two filipino players missed the game due to injury, but they never gave up and still played very strong in the match.
With the win, China made it to the knockout stage as group winner, while South Korea also qualified despite its 69-65 loss to New Zealand.
