Elephant calf and mother share heartwarming moment in Yunnan
A heartwarming moment between an Asian elephant calf and his mother at the Wild Elephant Valley in Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture, Yunnan province, recently went viral on Chinese social media.
When the baby elephant recently attempted to nurse, he initially struggled to locate where to latch. The mother patiently extended her trunk to guide her calf. After a few tries, the little one finally succeeded in nursing.
This calf was born on Jan 9, weighing an impressive 158 kilograms, making him the heaviest newborn elephant calf ever recorded at the Wild Elephant Valley. He stood on his own just seven minutes after birth and nursed for the first time an hour and 35 minutes later, indicating good health, according to the keepers at the valley.
