Ye Hongzhuan, former vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China for serious violations of Party discipline and national laws, China's top anti-graft authorities said on Friday.

According to a statement by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, the decision followed an investigation by the authorities.

Investigators found that Ye had seriously deviated from a correct view of political achievements, raised debts in violation of rules, pursued vanity and prestige projects, and resisted investigation.

Ye failed to properly perform his duties, causing huge economic losses to the State, and failed to report personal matters as required, it said.

He was also found to have violated the central Party leadership's eight-point decision on improving conduct by accepting banquets that violated rules and allowing others to pay expenses that he should have paid himself.

According to the statement, he sought benefits for others in cadre selection and appointment, project contracting and fund allocation, and illegally accepted huge amounts of money and valuables in return.

He was also accused of illegally accepting cash gifts, gaining large returns through private lending, and using his power to benefit relatives' business activities.

The authorities revoked his entitlements, terminated his qualification as a delegate to the 12th CPC Hunan Provincial Congress and confiscated his illicit gains.

His suspected crimes will be transferred to the procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution, along with the related assets.

Ye, 68, a member of the Tujia ethnic group from Hunan, began working in 1975 and joined the CPC in 1976. He spent his entire career in Hunan, including more than four decades in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture.

He previously served as head of the prefecture's development planning commission, governor of the prefectural government and Party chief of Xiangxi. In 2018, he became vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress while continuing to serve as Party chief of Xiangxi until March 2021.

Ye retired from his post at the Standing Committee of the Hunan Provincial People's Congress in 2022 and was placed under investigation in December 2025.
