Eggs, cured pork, rice, and other farm products were sold nationwide through a village livestream sale on Tuesday in Wuchuan Gelao and Miao autonomous county, Guizhou province.

On the open ground in front of the Qingjin village committee office, villagers gathered with baskets and bags of homegrown goods and waited for the weekly livestream to turn their harvest into profit.

The products are labeled and listed one by one before each session. They are then shipped through logistics, and the proceeds are handed to villagers in cash or by transfer.

Some items were so popular that they sold out almost as soon as they went online. The host had barely listed the honey before it was gone.

"My wild honey sells for 120 yuan (about $17.7) a bottle," said Lei Guangyang. "In just three weeks, I have earned more than 4,000 yuan. I only need to bring the honey here instead of taking a long bus ride into town to sell it."

Wang Luzhang had also sold all 30 eggs he had brought that day at 1.2 yuan each and still had homegrown rice waiting for buyers.

According to local officials, Qingjin village holds one livestream every week. The township runs at least two per week when the market is in session, allowing villagers to sell their products for better prices without having to travel.

"We have held more than 50 livestream sessions so far, with total sales of around 80,000 to 100,000 yuan," said Yan Chen, an official from Fuyang township, which administers the village. "The hosts are villagers and village cadres who do this in their spare time, so we do not charge farmers any service fee."

Yan said the local government plans to expand the model and build livestream rooms in villages across the township.
