Neymar fractured a vertebra in his lower back in Brazil's quarterfinal win over Colombia, ruling him out for the rest of the tournament.
在四分之一決賽巴西戰(zhàn)勝哥倫比亞的比賽中，內(nèi)馬爾腰椎骨骨裂，將缺席本屆世界杯剩余的比賽。
上文中的rule him out for the rest of the tournament即“使他無法參加世界杯剩余的比賽”，這里的rule out表示不參加比賽并非他個人所愿，而是被迫的，rule out指“將…排除”，如，The regulations rule out anyone under the age of eighteen.（按規(guī)定，18歲以下的人都不能參加。）巴西隊隊長席爾瓦也因為在這場比賽中收到第二張黃牌而將無法參加下一場對陣德國的半決賽，his second yellow card ruled him out for the semi-final match against Germany.總之，內(nèi)馬爾和席爾瓦都將“無法參加比賽”（stay off the field/sit out the match）。
如果退出比賽的決定由選手自己做出，則可用to pull out of the game，to withdraw from the game或to call the game off來表示，如，he withdrew from the game due to injury（他因傷決定退賽）。
