The United States Olympic Committee had selected Chicago as a US applicant city finalist to host the 2016 Olympic.

Baku (Azerbaijan), Chicago (USA), Doha (Qatar), Madrid (Spain), Prague (Czech Republic), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Tokyo (Japan) have applied for the right to host the 2016 Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on Friday.
According to IOC procedure, the cities will start Phase 1 work, which will eventually lead to the election of the 2016 host city in Copenhagen in October 2009.
During Phase 1, the applicants are required to present IOC their potential to organize successful Olympic Games in 2016 and should answer a questionnaire. At the end of this first phase, the IOC Executive Board selects the Candidate Cities.
In the Phase 2, a Candidature File describing their Olympic project will be submitted to the IOC and the IOC Evaluation Commission will assess it and send their assessment report to IOC members no later than one month before they cast their vote on 2 October 2009 in Copenhagen.
The IOC said Candidate Cities are due to participate in the IOC Observer Program during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games in August 2008.
