Professors, students, alumni and friends:

The new year concludes the past year and marks a new starting point and open a new chapter. And as New Year’s Day 2019 approaches, I want to extend my sincerest wishes to all teachers and students, retired comrades, your family members, and all alumni all over the world a truly Happy New Year on behalf of the Party and administration of Shanxi University.

Over the past year, Shanxi University has had held the banner of socialism with Chinese characteristics high and has made best use of development opportunities to increase our strength. And, thanks to our hard work and innovative spirit, we’ve made great progress in building a top regional research-oriented university.

In 2018, we have followed a system of presidential accountability, under Party leadership, found ways to improve organizations and make optimal use of new methods to improve the Party’s work.

We have improved our subjects and highlighted our advantages and, in our new Dongshan campus work have completed overall planning and bidding. We have greatly increased cooperation and innovation and have had good scientific and research achievements, with many papers published in top journals, such as Nature Chemistry, JACS, and PRL highlighting out new scientific research.

We have also pushed the application of scientific developments, with an economic and social effect, especially the production of succinic acid and synthesized production of polycarboxylate superplasticizer. The university’s Shanda Hesheng Co has been listed on the stock exchange, providing a new source of financing for colleges in Shanxi.

We have nurtured many talented people, with three of our students getting awards in national competitions, and 14 others getting prizes for their innovative ability. The school’s talent strategy is in place and has brought us 123 outstanding PhDs and post-docs, and two top academic groups and 19 senior personnel.

This year will see an increase in our reforms, by applying the ideas put forward by the 18th Party Central Committee, and by the Party secretary, Xi Jinping. And we will take advantage of the opportunities provided by the 13th Five-year Plan (2016-2020) to focus on reforms and providing a firmer foundation for a special top regional research-oriented university. and, by combing the 13th Five-year Plan with our mid–to-long-term development goals, we will make our management concepts clearer and put our reform concepts into practice. We will increase cooperative innovation to achieve a breakthrough with our“2011 collaborative and innovation center”.

We will also improve our staff to motivate them more and make them more competitive and improve our resource allocation system for more efficiency use. In the new year, we’ll work hard on the new Dongshan campus, to provide greater space for future development of the university.

So, I hope that everyone will use this opportunities to forge ahead with determination to create a beautiful future for Shanxi University! In conclusion, let me wish everybody good luck and a Happy New Year with happiness and good health.
