Outgoing Macao chief executive congratulates new CE
The incumbent chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region Fernando Chui Sai-on on Sunday extended his sincere congratulations to Macao's CE-elect Ho Iat-seng.
Ho was elected the fifth-term chief executive of the Macao SAR on Sunday with 392 valid votes. He was the sole candidate in the election.
Chui said the central government has adhered to a consistent standard for selecting the chief executive of the Macao SAR. That is, the chief executive should love the country and the Macao SAR and is trusted by the central government, has the capability to lead the SAR and is supported by the people of Macao.
Ho is widely accepted and recognized in Macao, Chui said. He also believed that Ho will lead a new administration and the people of Macao to continue the faithful and accurate implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle and scale new heights in the development for the Macao SAR.
Pending approval by the central government, Ho is expected to be sworn into office on Dec 20.
Chui, whose term ends on Dec 19, said his administration will do all it can to assist Ho in forming a new administration and ensure a smooth transition.
