Wang Fengchao, former mayor of Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office due to severe breaches of Party disciplines and national laws, China's top anti-corruption bodies announced on Friday.

The decision followed an investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, and has been disclosed online.

Investigators found that Wang conducted superstitious activities, violated the requirements for high-quality development in State-owned enterprises, and engaged in "vanity projects" to seek job promotions.

He accepted invitations to banquets, trips, and fitness activities that could potentially affect the impartial execution of his duties, the commissions said, revealing that he improperly interfered in market economic affairs and judicial activities.

He exhibited laziness and negligence in governance and displayed an inflated sense of greed. Additionally, he was found to have accepted huge amounts of bribes in exchange for using his positions to seek benefits for others in matters such as personnel promotion, project contracting, financing, and loan and business operations.

The commissions said that they decided because Wang seriously violated Party disciplines and national laws. His suspected criminal case has been transferred to prosecutors for further review, and the assets involved have also been handed over.

Born in December 1965 in Zhongjiang, Sichuan, Wang joined the Party in January 1986 and began working in July 1986. His previous positions include vice-chairman of Sichuan Changhong Electronic Group, vice-mayor of Sichuan's Neijiang, deputy head of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Sichuan provincial government, chairman of Sichuan Airlines Group, and chairman of Sichuan Development Holding Company.

He was placed under investigation in November.
