Delegates to congress are elected
A total of 2,287 delegates have been elected to the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, scheduled to open on Oct 18.
The delegates, representing 89 million members of the CPC nationwide, come from all walks of life, such as the economy, science, national defense, law enforcement, education, health, sports and culture sectors. Many of them are working at the grassroots level.
There is also a proper proportion of female delegates and delegates from minority ethnic groups. The list still awaits final approval of the delegates' qualification examination committee of the coming Party congress.
The congress, held every five years, is expected to map out the country's development for the following years and has received wide attention both at home and abroad.
To better serve reporters, a media center will open on Oct 11 for domestic and overseas journalists, it was announced on Friday.
The media center, based in the Beijing Media Center Hotel, will handle credentials for foreign journalists and correspondents from the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions, as well as Taiwan.
The center will also handle interview applications, organize news conferences and arrange coverage for other activities related to the congress.
