A competition of picking goji berry was held in Juhuatai manor in Tongxing, Ningxia Hui autonomous region, on Monday, kicking off the harvest season of goji in the county. Villagers living nearby participated in the competition.
They handed in the goji berries to the manor in exchange for some pocket money. Many of them worked part-time or full-time on the goji plantation and earned up to 10,000 yuan ($1,410) a year. They said they are on the way to a moderately prosperous life.
