PLA follows and monitors US warship transiting Taiwan Strait
The Chinese People's Liberation Army followed and monitored a United States warship that transited the Taiwan Strait on Wednesday, a military spokesperson said on Thursday.
Shi Yi, spokesman for the PLA Eastern Theater Command, said in a release that the guided-missile destroyer USS William P Lawrence transited the Taiwan Strait and publicly hyped the action.
The theater command organized naval and air forces to follow and monitor the US warship's transit, handling the situation lawfully and effectively, he said.
Shi added that the US side distorted facts, misinterpreted legal principles, and misled international perception.
"We sternly warn the US to stop its distortions and hype, and work together to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait," he said.
