China stands ready to work with the United States to maintain communication, manage differences, expand cooperation, and continue to explore the right way for the two major countries to get along in the new era, Vice-Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said on Friday.
Beijing is committed to pursuing mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation with Washington, Ma told a news conference, adding that at the same time, it will firmly defend China's sovereignty, security and development interests.
Oppression and coercion against China is not the right approach and won't work, and efforts to hold back China's development and hinder the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation will only fail, he said.
